Buccaneer Program
Buccaneer Program is generally a level where a lot of optimization is involved. There are precise tricks and skips that makes this level not an easy level to do great in.
The first skip to know about is the one from the beginning to the higher platforms. If Gex licks the small platform, then here is what you want to do: Run a bit on the platform to have higher jumps without loosing momentum, then jumps from the platform to the higher area. You can jump in place to keep the ability of having higher jumps. Sometimes you will land on the red moveable platform that is within the higher platform. I guess the best set up to do is to jump on the little platform off to the left more and run right. At the edge, jump in place and do a tailbounce and jump to the higher platform. Just like on my 2nd attempt with enough height to the small platform, Gex could not lick it at all which means that you already have higher jumps from the momentum.
There is an easier way to do this skip but it wastes about 5 seconds. First you activate the cannon and shoot the 2 eyes down with the cannon. Jump on the small platform and then from there, jump to the skull and after that, jump again to the higher platform.
You can skip multiple cutscenes in this level with the Start button.
At 2:50, you can jump through the small opening to the left but there is a chance that you will be blocked by an invisible wall. After getting over, I turn the camera so that the pirate is off screen so that he can't move in random locations.
At 4:02, there is this trick where you can hold down the start button to avoid the camera from moving to the cutscene that plays. I do this to avoid the position of the moving barrel from restarting. If that happens then you have to do a hard jump to the barrel then to the other high platform to only waste minimal time.
You can reset the wall of death's position by going in 1 of the 2 doors that connects to the room. Here is a video that shows you getting the bonus coin in the Wall of Death area faster then what I did but I don't know if it is worth it in 100% runs.

When you go in the Wall of Death area, make sure to not go in from the sides because then Gex will get caught in the doorway. Getting the early cycle at 4:45 is hard. One of the things that you should keep in mind is that when you are going down at 4:37, don't jump. Avoid licking the ledge by going against the wall as you go down.
If you karate kick through a pirate, you are most likely going to get his 2 fly coins right away.
At 6:18, you can drop down next to the pirate and he will do his attack rather then waiting so you can kill him fast that way. Memorizing where the 4 ships go really helps you. Shoot where they are going to rather then where they are at.
At 7:31, I turn my camera that way so that the parrot won't be in a spot where I'm not use to. See what works with you.
At 7:48, you can try to not have the pirate on screen and can tailwhip him at the right moment when he chases you to instantly kill him. I was too late in the video.
